I’m all about DIYing when it comes to my beauty products, because it means I can control what I’m putting on my skin (and this means no chemicals).
This time I’m sharing a recipe to make your own lip scrub.
Starting a lip care regime is very important when you like your lipstick to apply (and look) smooth and flawless and it makes your lipstick last longer. By using a lip scrub, you get rid off that top layer of dry skin, exposing a new soft lip. It exfoliates and nourishes your lips and gives chapped lips no chance.
In this blog post I’m sharing my recipe to make a sugar-honey lip scrub. Honey has antibacterial and antiseptic properties and it helps healing your skin, sugar is a natural exfoliant (and more gentle than salt) and coconut oil is nourishing and moisturizing.
The things you’ll need
- 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil / jojoba oil / vaseline (petroleum jelly) / a lip balm
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- Small container with lid
I used coconut oil to make my lip scrub, but you can use other substances like petroleum jelly, olive oil, organic jojoba oil or even your favorite lip balm.
How to make your lip scrub
- Mix 1 tablespoon of coconut oil (vaseline, olive oil…) with 1 tablespoon of honey until you are left with a thick and smooth consistency. The consistency of coconut oil chances depending on the temperature. Make sure you use solidified coconut oil.
- Add 2 tablespoons of sugar to the mixture and mix until it’s combined. If you like a silky and less thick scrub, you can add more honey.
How to use and preserve your lip scrub
It’s best to keep your lip scrub refrigerated. This lip scrub should last for approximately two weeks. Before each use, let the scrub sit out and adjust to room temperature. This softens it up. Apply the scrub in a circular motion and let it sit for 2 minutes before removing it with a warm washcloth. Apply a lip balm after each use to hydrate your lips.
